Andrew Kwan Artists Management Inc. is pleased to welcome bassoonist Nadina Mackie Jackson

[May 10, 2010] One of the world’s leading bassoonists, Nadina Mackie Jackson is not afraid to explore the boundaries of performance. From unaccompanied baroque to newly commissioned concerti, her performances often reach far beyond traditional settings for bassoon. As a concerto soloist, Nadina has appeared with Montreal Symphony, Toronto Chamber Orchestra, and Cayuga Chamber Orchestra to name a few. An active orchestral musician, she was a member of the Montreal Symphony for ten years, was principal bassoon for the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra and continues to lead various ensembles.  Nadina has eleven solo and chamber CD titles to her credit and can be heard on over one hundred orchestral recordings. On faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University, University of Toronto, and The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School, she is often invited to give workshops and clinics across North America. Nadina is co-director of the Grand River Baroque Festival and is the founder of the Council of Canadian Bassoonists.

Andrew Kwan Artists Management will also represent and manage the multi-instrumental duo team, guy&nadina, featuring Guy Few (trumpet, corno da caccia, piano) and Nadina Mackie Jackson (bassoon).

Trans-Canada Highway of Concerts

Guy and I have spent much of this season traveling the trans-Canada highway, at least the sections of Ontario and B.C. where we have had our recitals this season.  In the last two weeks, between getting our Toronto house ready for sale, teaching, auditioning new students and attending our students' grad recitals and final  juries, we were in Montreal where Guy played the Hétu Concerto with my former band, l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, then in Lakefield for the a concert/masterclass for Performing Arts Lakefield and in Gananoque at the Firehall Theatre.

We also gave a concert for the Gananoque Secondary School and got some wonderful questions from our attentive young listeners (how do you read music so quickly? which is harder, the bassoon or the trumpet?  what is the pattern in your hair??).  We were received with such tremendous enthusiasm by the audiences of these concert societies that we feel as if we have many new and lasting friendships.  I have said it before and I will say it again... this is the best life that I can imagine, playing concerts where people can hear the voices of our instruments clearly in some of the most beguiling music ever written.
