News

On June 23, I performed my Parry Sound my official debut on the lawn of St James Centennial United Church at the Riversongs (Music, Poetry & Art) Festival! This amazing, interactive festival and the brand new community-based Whispering River Orchestra are the creations of dynamo cellist and educator, Brenda Muller.  Thank you, Brenda!  Your strength and courage is inspiring and unstoppable.

The noon concert on June 23 had an interactive art component, and audience members participated willingly in the Shades of Play sketch project and the children took the lead in the  slightly messier painting project.  I met some fascinating people, including poets Tom Fraser & Katrina Fretwell and radio personality, Tom Dowswell.

My next appearance is with Whispering River Orchestra on June 25 at St James United, playing Mathieu Lussier’s Spring Lullaby on an amazing program that includes the Carol Ann Weaver’s Earth Peace.  Then I play a movement of Vivaldi with the WRO on June 26 at St Peter’s. (all proceeds to benefit Syrian refugees).

I  have just finished a whirlwind fortnight with Guy Few and Chamber Music Amici in (and around) Eugene, Oregon.  This has been the most wonderful experience of combining intense rehearsals with concerts and every type of outreach... we performed at 5 schools for many classes of children, from kindergarten to highschool, and gave masterclasses at the University of Oregon and gave an interactive art/music workshop at Ophelia’s Place (Shades of Play) and a workshop for the Shedd Institute.  Our last concert with Chamber Music Amici was on June 6 at the glorious old building that houses the Shedd Institute to a sold out audience of wonderful supporters.  We had a day off, then a final concert at Marshanne Winery on June 8.  I met so many extraordinary people on this tour, and finished with a few days in Berkeley, visiting by dear friends Nic McGegan and David Bowles, planning our next Vivaldi album!

My summer holds some real treasures... Canada Day appearance in my hometown of Drayton organized by singer/songwriter Lucas Rogerson, then a house party with the world-beat-rock-sax-jam band, Ouroboros to celebrate my first year in Drayton, then a benefit concert organized by Jade Wan for Musicians Without Borders, then a week in Memphis (wooooohoo!), then off to Ottawa’s Chamberfest with Guy Few to play a recital at the National Gallery (another version of Shades of Play), then back to Toronto for Beethoven Septet and a Britten chamber opera with Toronto Summer Music Festival,  then to Nova Scotia to play concerti and chamber music and the premiere of beautiful new solo work for bassoon and orchestra by Lucas Oickle with the Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra and their dynamic conductor, Dinuk Wijeratne.

I will be booking for future seasons starting in August, 2016, so please contact me directly for information.
