Having a life-changing experience this week... playing with the great Valdy and incredible jazz pianist Karel Roessingh this Friday at the Kingsville Folkfest, then hearing some of the astounding musicians who are here.  HeardJ. P. Cormier for the first time and head officially still spinning (may never stop)... met the multi-talented mad genius Graham Shaw and he gave me his beautiful hat (photo to come).  Yesterday, Valdy invited me on stage for the Living Legends workshop with Ken Whiteley and Bruce Cockburn and incredible bassist George Koller... I sat so close to these great artists, sound washing over me from monitors, players and audience.  More today. Tomorrow we head to other concerts (Kincardine Music Festival and Brookside Cultural Centre in Midland).  Our recording dates are back on for this week though a bit of scramble to locate a venue (suggestions welcomed... anything within a 1 hour radius of Toronto, atmospheric preferred, thank you for any ideas).

Masterclasses happening this summer included a wonderful day with the National Academy Orchestra (July 25 with Guy Few).  Next up will be Brooke Valley Bassoon Days (August 18-20 for me, the camp runs August 16 – 22), University of Southern Mississippi with the class of Dr Lee Woolly (August 27)  and  University of Memphis with the class of Dr Lecolian Washington (August 29)!

Composer Constantine Caravassilis has won a full Ontario Arts Council commissioning grant to write my next bassoon concerto (working title: Silver Angel) which I will premiere on June 12, 2015 with Thirteen Strings in Ottawa, led by Kevin Mallon.  The concert is called Message in a Bottle after a string work by Constatine Caravassilis.
